Reblog: How should a child’s two languages be combined in bilingual clinical decision making?

When I do seminars or work with parents, I always emphasize how important proper assessment is for identifying language delays in bilingual children . As I say “You must have your child evaluated by a bilingual speech therapist or by two (or three) different therapists”, I can see people thinking “How am I going to manage that???”. This post, by an expert in the area of bilingual speech assessment, explains better than I can why the right assessment (and the right professional(s)) is so important for bilingual children with language challenges.
